In 1945, Joseph Pilates published his book, Return to Life Through Contrology. Mr. Pilates describes Contrology as “complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit.” He went on to say that “Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” Contrology – or Pilates as we know it today – is the method of 34 mat exercises developed by Joseph Pilates and described in his book.
On the third Saturday of each month, we are teaching a virtual Return to Life Pilates Mat Class. This class encompasses the 34 Pilates mat exercises, as described and pictured in Mr. Pilates’ book. This class will take the place of our usual intermediate class. It includes some advanced exercises. If you’re unsure whether you’re ready to try this class, please email email@example.com and we can talk about whether the class is a good fit.
Why did Mr. Pilates call his book Return to Life? Because he believed that “civilization impairs physical fitness,” and that likewise, “physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” The exercises designed by Mr. Pilates will help you Return to Life, and so join us!
