We’ve been blessed to see more and more new faces in our online studio over the past couple of months. I do my best to get to know everyone as they join the Northwoods family, but I thought it might be a good idea to tell you a little about myself.
I first started taking Pilates when I was a stressed-out law student almost ready to graduate from law school, preparing to take the bar exam, and a few months away from getting married. I found a local studio, tried the first session, and was hooked. You have to love exercise where you get to do most things lying down!
It was a bit of a twisty road (as life tends to be), but if you throw in graduate school, a few job changes for me and my husband, training to become a Pilates instructor, moving to central Iowa, and giving birth to our son in 2014, you’ll be about to the point where we decided to open up the business.
I’ve been the owner and instructor at Northwoods Pilates since 2015. Back then, it was a part-time endeavor. Month by month, as the business has grown, my clients have helped me build it into what it is now.
One of the first questions people ask as they begin at the studio is why it’s named Northwoods Pilates & Wellness. In short, the answer is that I’m a girl who grew up in Minnesota. My parents live in the northern part of the state, and the northwoods is still where I go to recharge my batteries. I opened the studio with the hope that it’s where people would come to restore balance to their own lives. A safe space where people can get a little stronger each week, gain the confidence that comes from investing in their health, and grow a little bit into the community we’ve built at Northwoods. So the name reminds me of my own life goals, and also reminds me of what I want my clients to feel as they develop their own practice in the studio. I love what I do.
Who are my partners in this work? I’m lucky enough to have tons of support from my husband, Drew, who helps me brainstorm ideas for the business and often acts as technical support during group sessions. When we’re not working in the studio, we’re working together to raise our kids, Finnegan and Eleanor, and our dogs, Watson and Maeve. It’s a busy house.
In addition to Drew and our kids, all of you are a part of the success of the business as well. One of my favorite parts of the work is getting to know everyone who walks through the door, along with everyone who signs in to online sessions with me for privates, duets, group classes, workshops, the 30 Day Pilates Reset – you name it. I fell in love with Pilates in part because of the community my mentor, Carey, built at her own studio, Rivercity Pilates. I’m very happy to say the same thing has happened as this studio has grown.
When you attend a session at Northwoods Pilates (in both the physical and online studios), I hope you leave feeling stronger, more confident, and more connected to your body and the community we’ve built in our sessions together. If you ever have any questions or suggestions on how we can better achieve our goals at Northwoods Pilates, you can reach out to me here.
Amazing story Cassie you are a light to many. Grateful for your vision and drive to start your own business and help others.
Thank you, Ingrid, and thank you for helping us find the perfect home.
