Catiana has been practicing Pilates for over 9 years and cannot imagine her life without Pilates because it helps reduce her back pain, which has gotten worse during the pandemic as she’s been working from home in front of a computer all day. Add to that the fact that she’s pregnant – yay! – and her regular Pilates practice is necessary to keep her happy and healthy. Listen below to hear more.
Cassie: Hello Catiana!
Catiana: Hello!
Cassie: So, you did Pilates in the studio before the pandemic began, and then once the pandemic started you did online sessions and you’ve also joined some of the online virtual classes, and now you’re expecting a baby and you’re still doing Pilates, and so you must really enjoy Pilates. Can you tell me what benefits you get out of your Pilates practice?
Catiana: Yes, of course. I get many benefits. I love Pilates and I cannot imagine my life without Pilates. I started practicing Pilates around 9 years ago. I became addicted to Pilates because if I don’t practice I feel the pain. I feel that my back starts hurting. Mainly now that I’m working from home and my job is always in front of the computer so I really feel the need to stop and stretch and do some exercise at least once a week. So that’s why I love Pilates and I want to continue. It’s good for my health, for my back, for my pain.
Cassie: Wonderful, and so how far along are you in your pregnancy?
Catiana: So, right now 20 weeks, 5 months, and even more now I need more Pilates!
Cassie: Yes, how has it been with the pregnancy and how has Pilates helped?
Catiana: So, I’m gaining, normal, right, more weight, so Pilates is helping to keep my balance and help with my pain because even more now I tend to have some back pain because of the weight so Pilates is helping to control that.
Cassie: Awesome. Do you have any advice for anyone who might be considering trying Pilates, especially in the virtual world?
Catiana: I, so this is all new right, we started last year doing Pilates virtually, and I thought in the beginning, um, I don’t know how this will work, but it worked pretty well. I have an awesome teacher who is very creative. I miss sometimes the equipment, but, being creative, the teacher uses chair and a lot of things that we have at home and it has been working really well. I don’t see any barrier.
Cassie: Good! Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Catiana: No, I would definitely encourage everyone to practice Pilates. There is nothing that I would say it’s not good. It’s all good and benefits for your health and your well-being.
