We are so excited to be offering our 3rd Annual Summer Pilates Challenge! We’ve learned a lot over the past two years of Challenges and many years of working with clients. First and foremost, we’re all human and humans need accountability! Of course there are a few magic souls who have iron-clad willpower to show up and exercise daily, but most of us need a little push. Signing up for a Challenge can give you a rush and all of the feel-good endorphins as you visualize your success at the end of the 8 weeks, but in order to realize those successes you have to be accountable to your goals.
Using a framework from The Fit Tutor of the 3 factors that ensure your fitness accountability is effective, we’re going to show you how our Challenge is designed to help you succeed! The three factors are: (1) have a specific game plan; (2) establish rewards and/or consequences; and (3) let your accountability partner in.
Step one is the easiest! There are two Challenges. You can strive to complete 12 sessions in 8 weeks or go for 24 sessions in 8 weeks. Whichever one you choose, you’ll want to take a look your calendar and see how your private sessions, duet sessions, group classes, and workshops (which count double!) fit into your plan. We suggest mapping out your sessions over the 8 weeks and writing them down – in ink! Remember, nobody is going to make you more of a priority than you are.
Tip #1: The Challenge begins June 13 and ends August 14. The studio will be closed for live sessions from July 2-10 (but see tip #2 below). The “live” portion of the Challenge is 8 weeks long, which is plenty of time to work your sessions into your life!
Tip #2: recorded classes count, and so if you cannot join a live class, you can always register, email Cassie to request the recording, and then do your session at a later time!
Our first workshop is Sunday, June 27th at 3 p.m. on Finding Your Low Abs. Workshops count double and are a fabulous way to take a deeper dive into a Pilates topic.
We’ve built rewards into the Challenge. If you complete the Challenge, not only will you feel awesome for sticking to your goals, and for all of the Pilates + walking that you completed, but you’ll also win a free Challenge t-shirt and (depending on how many sessions you completed) possibly be eligible for our grand prize. Awesome!
You can also reward yourself throughout the Challenge. Did you meet your Pilates + step goals for the week? Sweet! Maybe Saturday is movie night or you reward yourself with a new workout tank top.
While I personally don’t find consequences very motivating, they work for some people, and so I’ll throw out some ideas that you can try if they’re your thing. If not, try other motivators. Maybe you had a week where you skipped Pilates and consistently missed your step goal. You’re feeling crummy and need a push to get back with the program. How about no social media until you log 4,000 steps each day? Or if you don’t do your Pilates, you have to clean the toilets (or dust, or whatever you least-favorite household task is)?
An accountability partner is crucial to success if you – like most of us – need a little push whenever obstacles get in the way of working out. Let’s run down a few of the obstacles you might face during our summer challenge: heat, humidity, travel, vacations, large meals, alcohol, friends, lazy days, not-feeling-it days, sore days, and the list goes on. An accountability partner is going to remind you to stay the course. To remind you why you started. And to remind you that your efforts will be worth it in the end!
As your accountability partner, we’ll send you helpful resources throughout the Challenge. We’ll keep track of your Pilates sessions and check in with you on your step goals. We’ll make the Challenge FUN!
