Mary is an active ager. Her primary goal with movement is to keep moving so that she can do all of the things she loves, like swimming, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. Mary first started thinking about Pilates when she was experiencing back pain. Since starting at Northwoods Pilates, she’s become stronger, is walking more, and finds that her everyday activities are easier.

Cassie: Alright, so Mary, what first brought you to Pilates?
Mary: I first became interested in Pilates because of back problems I was having and other joint issues.
Cassie: Yeah, and what benefits have you seen from your Pilates practice?
Mary: Pilates has helped me become more functional in my daily life, stronger, and able to do the things that I want to do and enjoy my life.
Cassie: That’s wonderful! Is there anything that has surprised you about Pilates?
Mary: I guess I am surprised at how much benefit I’m getting – that it exceeds what I think I’m getting for the effort that I’m putting into it. So, I think that would be a surprise that it really, it really has made a difference. I’m much stronger.
Cassie: Wonderful. Who do you think would benefit from Pilates?
Mary: Well, I think anyone would benefit. I think, speaking from my own experience, any person who is aging – we’re all aging but, that has reached midlife and beyond in order to maintain your strength and your functionality, it’s really important to keep working on that because that’s what we lose as we get older. So, I think, from a perspective of I’m 65 years old, I think anybody in my age group would benefit.
Cassie: And how has your Pilates experience been here at Northwoods Pilates in Ankeny?
Mary: Well, Northwoods Pilates is fantastic! Not only is Cassie a great Pilates instructor, she’s a great listener too. So, that’s really nice, to have somebody that listens to what you say, and comments on it. So, it’s convenient, it’s easy, Cassie’s reliable, always available, it’s just turned out great. So, highly recommend, come and see Cassie at Northwoods Pilates.
